In the Fall of 2009, with funding from the National Science Foundation, “cohorts” of students in four areas of the country began a revolutionary new high school math program designed by the Algebra Project.
In June 2010, the cohort students from Mansfield, Ohio and Eldorado, Illinois came together as at Southern Illinois University Carbondale for a two week Summer Institute focusing on mathematics and leadership.
The Institute provided an opportunity for the students from the two communities to learn from each other, reflect on the past year, and think about their futures.
This was the first time these cohorts met each other…
