Course Content

The algebra of functions (polynomials, rational, exponential, logarithmic), graphing, solving equations including systems of equations. See Math XL for schedule of assignments.

Requirements and Grading

Grades will be determined on the basis of the following:

Homework will be assigned daily. Most homework and quizzes will be completed on line with the Math XL system although a few homework papers will be collected during the term and some quizzes will be taken in class. Timely completion of homework with at least 92% correct is required in order to take quizzes. Math XL gives you multiple attempts at homework problems so you should be able to get 100% correct in most cases. Online quizzes must be taken within a limited time interval. You may make two attempts. Only the better score will count. Quizzes cannot be made up, but the lowest 20% of quiz grades will be dropped. Three exams will be given in addition to the final exam. All exams will be off line, using pencil and paper. Grades will be based on an 90% A, 80% B, 70% C, 60% D scale.

Regular attendance, consistent homework and regular review of earlier material are essential for successful completion of the requirements of the course. All work submitted for a grade, whether on line or off line, is to be the student's own work.

Withdrawal

The last day to withdraw from the course without a grade is Friday, June 20. The last day to withdraw from the course with a grade of W is Monday, July 7. You should be aware that the grade INC (incomplete) cannot be used as a withdrawal and can only be assigned to students who are passing the course and for reasons beyond their control cannot complete all class assignments. See the undergraduate catalog for more details.

Emergency Procedures

Southern Illinois University Carbondale is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for study and work. Because some health and safety circumstances are beyond our control, we ask that you become familiar with the SIUC Emergency Response Plan and Building Emergency Response Team (BERT) program. Emergency response information is available on posters in buildings on campus, available on BERT's website at www.bert.siu.edu, Department of Safety's website www.dps.siu.edu (disaster drop down) and in Emergency Response Guideline pamphlet. Know how to respond to each type of emergency.

Instructors will provide guidance and direction to students in the classroom in the event of an emergency affecting your location. It is important that you follow these instructions and stay with your instructor during an evacuation or sheltering emergency. The Building Emergency Response Team will provide assistance to your instructor in evacuating the building or sheltering within the facility.
