Rules:
1. A problem will be posted every second Tuesday.
You will have until the posting of the next problem to submit an answer
to the current problem.
2. The student who submits a mathematically correct
answer first earns five points. The second student who submits a mathematically
correct solution earns four points, and so on, down to one point for the
fifth student who does so. Those who submit correct solutions thereafter,
until the posting of the next problem, each earn one-half point. Updated
point totals will be posted on this page.
3. On-line or paper submissions will be accepted.
4. A tally of point totals for the academic year
will be kept by Dr. Donald Mills, Math Club Faculty Advisor.
5. The person who earns the most points by year's
end will receive $50. The person who earns the second-most points will
receive $30, and the person who finishes third receives $15.
6. Note that this contest is only open to students,
both graduate and undergraduate. Faculty members are welcome to work on
problems, but are asked not to help students solve problems.
7. Additionally, Math Club encourages faculty
members to submit problems to Dr. Mills that are both challenging and suitable
for those who have successfully completed at least one calculus course.
Given Math Club's desire to make this contest open to as many students
as possible, calculus-based problems are highly preferable.
