Announcement (posted at 11:45 a.m. on 01 Oct 03): I encourage you to visit the site referenced under the Spring 2003 listing for Math 221 (see above), entitled "Video Lectures on Linear Algebra (courtesy of MIT)", as your perspective on the subject may be enhanced in so doing.

Announcement (posted at 9:10 p.m. on 23 Nov 03): There will be a quiz over Sections 7.6-7.7 on Friday, December 5.

Announcement (updated at 1:20 p.m. on 24 Nov 03): The final exam, which is comprehensive, will be on Wednesday, December 10, from 12:50 to 2:50 p.m. in AG 170. Review Document

Announcement (posted at 9:15 p.m. on 23 Nov 03): Your grade in the course will be posted online, as well as on the bulletin board located across from the lecture hall on the third floor of the A-wing of Neckers Hall, by noon on Monday, December 15. Your ID number will be a three-digit number (a different number for each person) located on your final exam. You must therefore memorize this number in order to find out your grade. The grades will be listed in a pseudo-random order (that is, non-alphabetically, etc.), so again, it is imperative that you remember your three-digit identification number!

WORTH A LOOK!  Link: Careers in Mathematics (I also recommend the text 101 Careers in Mathematics by Andrew Sterrett (editor), 2nd ed. (2003), published by the Mathematical Association of America. Unfortunately, Morris Library does not appear to have a copy of this book, but if you're interested, you can obtain a copy via the MAA or Barnes & Noble.)

Note: The MAPLE computer algebra package, available in the math department's computer lab (Neckers 258) has linear algebra packages containing many useful functions, allowing one to compute dot products of vectors, cross products of 3-dimensional vectors, the eigenvalues and corresponding eigenvectors of a matrix, orthogonal vectors via the Gram-Schmidt process, and so forth. The lab is open from 8:30 to 4:30 each weekday. I encourage you to visit the lab at your earliest opportunity and get acquainted with MAPLE, if you have not used it already. To access the linear algebra packages, go to Help, Glossary, Mathematics, Packages, and then look at the linalg and LinearAlgebra packages.
