RESEARCH PAPERS, THESES, AND DISSERTATIONS

In preparing your research paper, thesis, or dissertation, you may use any typing package or program that meets the requirements contained in the Department of Mathematics Guidelines (link below). The departmental guidelines using LaTeX have been approved by the Graduate School and adapt the Graduate School Guidelines to the special needs in mathematics. It is also recommended that students check with their advisors prior to selecting a typing program.

Below is a LaTeX template for a sample paper which has been approved by the Graduate School. It provides samples and comments to help you prepare your paper. Here are some links to LaTeX documentation on the web.

Download template06.zip. When you open this file on your disk it will expand out so each file (described below) is available for you to use. Sample File shows formatting.

There are 22 files included in the Thesis Template for the sample thesis document approved by the SIUC Graduate School.

Samples of formatting and hints are in each of the following files. Just delete the pages/parts you don't want and add your own text. As soon as you make changes to these files, be sure to save them under a new name, preferably something that identifies them as yours.
