Text
Books:
[1] Algebra and Trigonometry, by Beecher, Penna, Bittinger,
3rd Ed. 2008
[2] MathXL
is very helpful for the study of this course. You can get examples
and/or hints for practicing problems in the text book.
Coverage:
Chapter 1 -- 4, & 8 (not the whole chapters).
Exam and Quiz:
Except for pop-up quizzes in class, we
have three hour-exams and a common comprehensive final exam.
Tentatively, they are arranged in Week 5 (or 6), 9(or 10), 13 and 15.
Grading Policy:
Two
lowest homework grades will be dropped. The course grade will then be
computed as follows: Homework & Quizzes 20%, Hour-exams 30%, Final
50%. The grades might be curved with a scale depending on the
performance of the class. Letter grades will then be assigned according
to the scale:
A, 100-90; B,
89-80; C,
79-70; D, 69-60; F, below 59.
However, you must
get at
least 60% on the final to
pass this course with C.
Homework:
Homework will be
assigned in class, and collected every Friday
at the beginning of the class. Late homework will be not accepted. It
is required to do every single
assignment. You are encouraged to work with other students. Note that
the following listed homework problems are subject to change during the
current week.
